Is Old MacDonald Dead?
"When I grow up, I wanna be a farmer!"
Let's face facts: growing rutabagas isn't exactly the sexiest career move (let alone shoveling manure, but that's another story). And it's a real problem: the majority of farmers are old and getting older, while there are fewer and fewer young people getting back to the land.
Every industry benefits from new blood, new ideas. But if this trend continues, who'll be growing our organic food? Who will be responsible for the safety of our food supply?
Tune is this week with host Jerry Kay, publisher of the Environmental News Network, as we explore farming today with the farmers of tomorrow.
This Week's Guests:
John R. Baker Attorney at Law and Administrator, Beginning Farmer Center, Urbandale, IA|
Paul Bucciaglia Organic Farmer/Owner of Fort Hill Farm, New Milford, CT|
