Healthy Food in Schools
One in three Americans born today is predicted to develop diabetes as a consequence of obesity, according to a new report by the International Diabetes Federation and the International Obesity Task Force.
Moreover, the percentage of overweight adolescents (12-19 years of age) increased from 5 percent in 1970 to 14 percent in 1999.
"The future of California depends on proactively dealing with the issues of obesity, diabetes and childhood nutrition," said California State Senator Deborah Ortiz.
Join host Jerry Kay, publisher of the Environmental News Network, to find out how public schools are improving nutrition, using fresh and organic produce, and connecting farms to schools.
