    Slow Foods

Fast food is such an integral part of our culture that rarely do we take a step back and remember (let alone insist) that there are alternatives.

That's what Carlo Petrini did when, in 1986, he not only protested the opening of a McDonald's at the base of the Spanish Steps in Rome's Piazza di Spagna, but did something about it.

Less than a decade later, the Slow Food movement boasts more than 80,000 member in 100 countries.

Is Slow Food just a flash in the french fry pan of America's fast food culture? Can Slow Food offer practical and viable alternatives to Big Macs and a chicken nuggets? It is a mass movement in the making, or merely a passing food fad for the culinary elite?

Dig in this week with host host Jerry Kay, publisher of the Environmental News Network, as we take an international culinary adventure into the heart and soul of food.

    This Week's Guests:

Giulio Colomba — VP, Slow Food International

Michael Dimock — Chairman, Slow Food USA
