    Slow Foods

    Fast food is such an integral part of our culture that rarely do we take a step back and remember (let alone insist) that there are alternatives.

    That's what Carlo Petrini did when, in 1986, he not only protested the opening of a McDonald's at the base of the Spanish Steps in Rome's Piazza di Spagna, but did something about it.

    Less than a decade later, the Slow Food movement boasts more than 80,000 member in 100 countries.

    Is Slow Food just a flash in the french fry pan of America's fast food culture? Can Slow Food offer practical and viable alternatives to Big Macs and a chicken nuggets? It is a mass movement in the making, or merely a passing food fad for the culinary elite?
